Icebreaker games for meetings

Quick icebreakers your team plays together during the call: one person shares a link, everyone joins in their browser, and the game does the asking, the timing and the scoring. No slides, no awkward round of “say a fun fact”.

Two Truths, One Lie is free to play. Premium icebreakers are included with a TeamBridge pass.

Pick by the time you have

Most meeting icebreakers should fit in the first 5 to 15 minutes. These are the games teams pick for each slot.

  1. 5 min

Start of a stand-up or weekly sync

This or That: two options per round and the whole team votes, so nobody has to speak first. Think Alike works too: answer the way you think everyone else will.

  2. 10 min

Team meeting or new joiner welcome

Two Truths, One Lie: everyone writes three statements and the group spots the lie. Who Said That?: anonymous answers to fun prompts, then guess who wrote each one.

  3. 15 min

Retro opener, onboarding or team social

Hot Seat: one person secretly ranks five things and the team guesses the order. Speed Meet: short 1-on-1 video chats with a prompt, so people meet everyone.

Pick by your team

  • A new team or new joiners

Two Truths, One Lie and Speed Meet. Everyone shares a little and hears from everyone else, without one person holding the floor.

  • A team that already knows each other

Hot Seat and Who Said That?: the fun is in seeing how well you know your teammates.

  • Quiet team or cameras off

Who Said That? and Bot or Not. Answers are typed and anonymous until the reveal, so nobody is put on the spot.

  • A big call (30+ people)

This or That, then Trivia. Both work with large groups because everyone votes or answers at the same time.

How to run an icebreaker that doesn’t feel forced

  • Keep it short

Five to ten minutes at the start of the meeting is enough. Put it on the agenda so people know it’s coming.

  • Go first

As the host, play the first round with a real answer. It sets the tone better than any instructions.

  • Let the game ask the questions

Prompts from the game feel lighter than a manager asking “so, tell us something about yourself”.

  • Make it a habit

The same 10-minute slot every week works better than a big event once a quarter. Rotate the game each week.

Questions

What is a good icebreaker game for a work meeting?

One that takes 5 to 10 minutes, works with cameras on or off and doesn’t put anyone on the spot. Two Truths, One Lie, This or That and Who Said That? are the most played on TeamBridge for this.

How long should a meeting icebreaker take?

Five minutes for a stand-up, ten for a team meeting, fifteen for an onboarding or a retro. Each game card shows how long a round takes.

Are these icebreakers free?

Two Truths, One Lie is free to play, as are Scribble, Codenames and four other games. Premium games like Who Said That? and Hot Seat are included with a TeamBridge pass.

Do people need to install anything or sign up?

No. The host shares one link in the meeting chat; everyone opens it in a browser on a laptop or phone and picks a name.

Do they work in Microsoft Teams, Zoom and Google Meet?

Yes. The game runs in a browser tab next to the call, so it works with any video call app, and in the office on a big screen.
